Our story
As of April 2025, 347 professionals have been officially endorsed as Certified Healthcare Facility Managers (CHFM) by the Council.
The International Advisory Council for Healthcare Facility Management (CHFM) is a professional body established to uphold, support, and guide the development of high standards in healthcare facility management in Malaysia and beyond. The Council is responsible for endorsing and overseeing professional certification programmes in the field, ensuring that they meet industry, regulatory, and practical requirements—especially within the unique context of Malaysia’s healthcare system.
The Council was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (ROS) to provide a structured and recognised platform for this purpose.
The story of the Council began with the development of Malaysia’s first Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) professional certification programme—a locally-driven initiative led by Finalspot in collaboration with International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Drawing upon input from healthcare facility management concessionaires, the Engineering Services Division of the Ministry of Health (MoH), and local industry experts, the programme was designed to meet rigorous healthcare facility management requirements while integrating uniquely Malaysian elements, including a Syariah Compliance module—the first of its kind globally.
The CHFM programme has since grown into a recognised and respected benchmark for healthcare facility management professionals. The Council currently endorses only two institutions as official providers of the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager professional certification programme:
- International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)
- Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)
Individuals who have successfully completed the CHFM programme from either IIUM or UNIMAS may apply to the Council for endorsement and formal recognition as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM).
The Council’s formation brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from MoH, IIUM, UNIMAS, Finalspot, and other industry players. Together, they ensure that the CHFM certification remains industry-relevant, academically sound, and compliant with national standards—including concession agreement requirements. The CHFM programme is also recognised by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), further cementing its value in both general and healthcare-specific facility management sectors.
The Council is committed to the continuous development and promotion of high-quality healthcare facility management training, and to ensuring that certified professionals meet the demands of a rapidly evolving healthcare environment—locally and internationally.
